It was Friday, the thirteen, a dark cloudy night with lightning and thunders! Fred Jones was walking home from the store. We moved from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />New York, in Boston. We had to stay a night at this Haunted House! We were going to move into our house tomorrow morning. When I told my mom that this house was haunted my mom said I was talking nonsense, but I will tell you how everything looked and you will know how I felt. The whole house looked like it had been through a tornado! The shudders were hanging by a hair! The door had a jagged line through it! The windows were broken like someone had punched through the glass! My mom called me in bed. My bed was on the highest floor. The bed had rats on it crawling around! I brushed them off and got in bed. The bed had a cold chill. When I fell asleep all I could see was the haunted house. I woke up in the middle of the night with a scratching sound. I had goose bumps run down my back. I was scared! The sound was coming from a broken closet door! I decided to check it out. I heard a weird howling sound and I knew it was only the wind. Suddenly I entered a tunnel that was going down.

Chapter 2

I slipped and kept falling down and down till I landed with a thud in the back yard. There were gravestones everywhere! There in front of one of the graves was a cat, not just an ordinary cat a pure black cat. It looked like a 3 years old cat. It had huge sharp teeth that could bite through your skin! I was terrified! I walked toward the cat when all of a sudden I fell into a hole. I kept falling till I landed into a waterhole. I looked to see how far I had fallen, but all I could see was dark! There was a creaking sound of a light on my right. I could see a speck of light. I followed the light, my feet splashing through the water. On the way towards the light I heard a cat’s meow, and I thought I saw two eyes from the side of me, but I was just imagining. I kept walking toward the light trying to find it, but I couldn’t. Then when I was about to give up I bumped into it. It was a hanging light scattered with dust. I sneezed. It echoed through the room. I almost jumped when I heard another echo coming ahead. It was a frightening scream for HELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPP! I walked ahead to see what it was. It was only a sound recorder that would turn on whenever you made a loud sound. I saw an old ladder made out of wood. I climbed on it. It creaked. It fell apart. The only thing I could grab was a rope. I climbed the rope to the top. I was at the side of the house. There were dead brown roses everywhere. They smelled terrible. I ran to the front of the house and looked down at the welcome mat. Instead of saying welcome it said,” Beware the next step you take you wish you were never born!” I thought it was just a stupid thing. So I took a step and I slipped. I kept slipping and slipping till I landed on my back.

Chapter 3

I picked myself up and walked up the door, but the door looked different. It was black instead of brown and it had a picture of a lady dressed in black. I entered. The wood creaked and it ripped, but instead of me falling in I jumped past the hole. I looked inside the hole and heard a splash. Oh no! My cap had slipped off my head into the water. Not just a stupid cap my favorite cap. I was not scared at all. I was furious! I saw a ladder at the side of the hole and climbed down it. I heard the clock strike 1o’clock. I thought that it was around 4, but it wasn’t. I finally reached the bottom step. I hit the cold water with my shoe. I saw my cap in the middle of the water. I jumped in to that I couldn’t touch the bottom. The water was pretty deep. It smelled nasty, like dead rats. I start swimming toward my cap, when something grabbed me tight. I tried to pull out of it but I couldn’t. I was stocked! Something was pulling me underwater. I took my last gulp of air and then my head went underwater. I grasped the top of the water but all I grasped was wet. I swam toward my foot where the thing was pulling me. It was a hand! I pulled it off and I swam to the surface and gulped air all around me. I grabbed the cap but I missed. I tried again and got it.

Chapter 4

I climbed up the ladder to the top and finally reached land. I heard a high shriek coming from a door. I looked inside and inside was a… ghost. I thought I was imagining. It spotted me with an evil grin. I stepped slowly backwards and closed the door. The ghost chased me into a closet, but it was not a closet it was an elevator. I pressed number 13. The elevator went up slowly and it stopped completely. I tried pressing all the other buttons, but nothing happened. The doors of the elevator opened! The place was spooky. There were black couches everywhere and white sheets covering old furniture. I hurried back in the elevator and pressed the floor that I had my bed on. I got to the floor and hurried to the room, I brushed off the rats from the bed and went to sleep, dreaming of our new house. I woke up the next morning with sunshine through the window. I heard the car honk. I ran down the stairs without looking back. I couldn’t wait to get to our new house. I promised myself I would never go back.

Chapter 5

Finally we reached our new house, the realtor hurried out of the car. I was so happy to get out of the stuffed car. While I tumbled out of the car I caught a glimpse of something in the grass, which reflected the sun. I went over to the thing and picked it up. I hid it in my pocket in case I needed it later. Just then some family from next door came. They welcomed us to the neighborhood! I said: “Hi!” to all of them. A boy about my age introduced himself as John Hixson and asked me where I was from. I said I was Fred Jones from New York. The realtor left leaving us with the neighbors. My mom and dad introduced themselves and asked them if they wanted to come in. John’s mom offered to help us unpack things, while John’s dad offered to help install the TV set. John told me to follow him up the steps. I did. He told me that he had gone in this house and he knew about a secret room.

Chapter 6

We reached a closed door. It looked as a secret room that needed a key. I looked down and saw the key, I held it up in front of John’s eyes and said: “Lets get in!” I was just about to turn the key when I heard my mom calling me. I told John to meet outside later that night. I went downstairs and asked my mom what she needed. She said she wanted me to choose a room. I decided to pick the room downstairs. I looked around and I choose the room closest to he bathroom. I filled my room with all my stuff and watched TV. I heard the clock strike 6 and my mom making dinner. My mom called me to dinner. We had my favorite meal, clam chowder. After dinner I watched my favorite movie. Mom came in and said: “Lights out! I got in bed and waited till I heard my mom and dad get in bed. I got out, put on my baseball cap, and waited for John. He was already there. We climbed up the stairs to the room. I put the key in the lock while holding my breath. I turned the key and it clicked. I opened the door slowly and inside was an attic with old stuff everywhere. I looked around and I saw newspapers and a box. My eyes stopped at the box. I tried opening the box, but it needed a key. I told John to get the key from the door, but it was locked. I thought we opened it with a key. John tried pushing on it but it was stocked. With the key on the other side of the door we couldn’t do anything.

Chapter 7

I told John to try kicking the door, which didn’t help at all. I turned and again my eyes stopped at the strange box. I knew that something was going on and the box was part of this. I looked at the lock of the box or should I say chest. I saw a light coming out of it. There was something in there that I needed to see. I quickly ran toward the chest, John following me behind. John looked surprised like it was the first time he had noticed the chest. He showed me to come closer. He told me that this was the chest that sucked a boy who lived there long time ago. He told me the whole story. I stared gulping at the chest. I took a step back, and John handed me the key. I asked him how he got it. He said,” When I kicked the door the key fell and slid under the door.” I took the key out of his hands and said, “Let’s get out of here!”. John said, “Good idea.” We started toward the door when the key flew out of my hands toward the chest lock. Oh no! The key turned with a swish, and the chest opened. Everything went so fast that the next thing I knew I was holding on to the door so I wouldn’t get sucked in. John was holding on to my legs.

Chapter 8

My hands were slipping. I couldn’t believe I was getting sucked in. I tried bumping my head against the wall but that didn’t help. I knew that this wasn’t a dream. I felt John’s hand starting to slip off. I tried getting a better grip, but that just made my hands more slippery. I felt John’s hands touching me one last time before he let go. I was instantly sucked in. When we finally landed we found ourselves in a tunnel. Right in front of us was a boy. John and I started screaming AHHHHHHHHHH! It was the boy! Actually, he was not a boy anymore. He was a grownup. He looked at us from head to toe. He said, “Hello what brings you here in my chest?” I managed to stammer out some words and said, “Wweee accidentally opened the chest and we got sucked in.” “Accidentally? “ he asked. “Well kind of,” I said. I asked him if he was the boy that got sucked in years ago. He said he was. How did you live? I have plenty of food out here.” Anyway I wouldn’t want to get lost out here,” I said. Let’s try opening the chest. “ Right,” he said, do you have the key? “ Yes,” John said. “What is your name?” I asked him. My name is Peter. Ok, nice to meet you Peter. My name is Fred and his name is John. “ About getting out of here,” I reminded him. “Key,” he said. John gave him the key.

Chapter 9

When he was working I asked John how he had gotten the key. He said when the air sucked him in he had pulled the key out. When I was about to say nice job, Peter told me he was done. He said in a couple of minutes the air will suck us in backwards. Just when he finished talking we started getting sucked in again. With a big thud we landed on our backs. Peter said he really had to go. So I said bye. “ I can’t believe it!” I exclaimed to John. John yawned,” Me too.” John and I shook hands and John hurried out of the house. I got in bed and dreamed of all the adventures I had from the haunted house to now. I woke up the next morning to the smell of French toast. I put on my clothes and hurried down stairs. “ Here you go,” my mom handed me a plate of French toast. Mom said, “Did you hear the noise last night from the attic?” “ No,” I said smiling innocently. My dad winked at me like he knew the secret. I ate my breakfast in silence. I couldn’t wait to find out what had happened to the chest.
